After my brief few days in Copenhagen, I went to Budapest. It's a pretty awesome historical city, a bit run-down in certain areas, but stunning nonetheless. The views were phenomenal from from the peak of the Buda side, especially at Buda Castle. Everyone who visits needs to take a mandatory evening river cruise - it's such a relaxing way to see both sides of the city, and the castle is beautiful when lit up at night. The "ruin bars" (unused spaces that have been turned into pubs and bars), are pretty awesome, Szimpla Kert is one of the more famous ones, and definitely worth a trip.

I achieved one of my life goals: to see the Northern Lights. The first few nights I went hunting for them and they were definitely there - just shielded by the clouds. On our last night in Iceland, everything magically cleared up, and I was greeted by the Milky Way and dancing waves of lights in the sky. What you see with the naked eye is really nothing like what appears in images, I had to squint a few times before I realised whether or not they were actually there, and then proceeded to jump around ecstatically when the first hints of green showed up in my long-exposure shots. I was out in zero degrees wearing pyjamas, ski-pants and sneakers without socks, and it was so surreal to see that many stars. That last night in Iceland, I fell asleep by the window staring at the utter beauty of nature.

Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries and geologically interesting places I've ever had the pleasure of travelling to. It's taken me forever to go through my 2000+ images and I'm starting my series of Iceland posts with a sneaky peek of a delightful meal at Grillmarkaðurinn in Reykjavik.
