Marrakech, the fourth largest city in Morocco, is also known as the Ochre City; the whole city is painted in a beautiful shade of rusty pink. Bahia Palace is a beautiful riad palace with amazing gardens - it's deceptively big. The Medina is absolutely stunning, and stopping at a traditional Moroccan pharmacy is a must - there are all sorts of local herbs that are used for a variety of different maladies.

Le Jardin Majorelle, the place you have to check out when you're in Marrakech. The gardens are beautifully landscaped with a variety of cacti, and the buildings painted the most striking shade of cobalt blue and bright yellow. The Marrakech medina and souk is beautiful, and the bustling plaza is filled with fruit juice stalls. We ended the day of wandering around Marrakech in the beautiful La Mamounia hotel, the ultimate Moroccan Insta destination. 

casablanca

Casablanca is home to the largest mosque in Morocco - Hassan II Mosque. With the tallest minaret (religious tower) in the world, it's absolutely humongous as it's meant to house thousands of people when in use. The city is an idyllic, scenic seaside town, where you can walk along the Corniche (seafront) as waves from the Atlantic crash into seaside pools. Rick's Café was made famous by the 1942 movie Casablanca, and is a great spot for lunch.

After Fez, we drove off to Rabat. The Kasbah of the Udayas was beautifully painted blue and white, and each corner felt more magical than the next. Being by the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Oceans meant for seafood on seafood.

Fez is often what you think about when you try to picture Morocco. The Medina is a busy maze filled with artisans that make bread, copper pots, and the most delicate filigree lamps. Viewing the tanneries from above, it is an iconic sight that comes with a rather particular scent to it...

volubilis & meknes

While still in Chefchaouen, we took the morning to adventure outside while the streets were quiet. After a traditional Moroccan breakfast at the Ryad and a drive through the mountains, we found Volubilis - an ancient Roman town. After lunch in Meknes, a quick walk around town and then a tour of the granaries and Bab Mansour, we headed onwards to Fez.
